Daily monitoring with a good glucose monitoring device, diabetic test strips and careful control of blood sugar levels are the most important steps to take if you have diabetes. Whether it is high sugar, which can cause you to be thirsty, tired, and constantly running to the restroom to urinate, or low blood sugar, which can cause you to feel shaky, dizzy, sweaty, hungry and sudden behavioral changes, it is important to follow your doctor’s prescribe eating and medication schedule.

Probably the best way to take care of your diabetes is to make sure the levels of sugar in your blood are near the normal range of between 70 and 120. This will make you feel better and help you stay healthy.

In order to check your blood sugar level you will need to take a drop of your blood and place it on a special diabetic test strip. Then a device, called a blood glucose meter or monitor, reads the diabetic test strip. The glucose monitor measures the amount of sugar in your blood. You do need to keep a daily log by writing down this level, along with the time and date which will help you see how well your treatment plan is working. Some monitors actually save the information in their system so you can check often to see your average levels.
